The summer is over. It has been full of travels and new connections. Barcelona, a city that I visit every year for many reasons most of them personal, is becoming an important professional destination for ArtsLead.
A wonderful connection that I established last year during APAP 2016 is turning into a great collaboration!
Rosa Galbany, of Galbany Productions, has started a small Jazz Festival in La Escala, Spain. It’s called Jazz Al Port. Her line-up consists of Spanish musicians and guests from other European countries. I was able to visit Rosa this summer and had a great time learning about her work in Europe and her efforts at Jazz Al Port. I see possibilities there for touring American musicians that are in the area. La Escala is gorgeous, overlooking the sea, and the food is exceptional. Rosa is a jazz pro, she creates a great atmosphere, and anybody that goes there will feel taken care of!
Barcelona: the city that has everything the artistic soul requires to thrive! History, architecture, beautiful people, music, great food. And all that is wrapped in an ideal climate.
In August, I was finally able to visit Jamboree, venerable Barcelona music venue where you can see the best of Jazz as well as a diversity of other music genres. It is located in the heart of the Barrio Gotico (which can get very touristy) but the club setting is very hip and cool.
The high point of my Barcelona trip was a meeting with the incredibly talented and beautiful Giulia Valle. Giulia is a bass player, composer and a band leader. Her music represents the best of modern jazz in a beautifully orchestrated and emotional way, based on world and Spanish music traditions. Her projects are very diverse. Her project LIBERA, one of her recent composition, is a great example of her versatility.
I am proud to say that ArtsLead will be working with Giulia on several projects.
Since I returned to the States in September things are picking up:
Brianna Thomas is doing phenomenally as a leader of her own band, and in concerts with jazz luminaries such as DeeDee Bridgewater at the JALC on September 23. She will also perform with Catherine Russell and Charenee Wade at Zellerbach, Philadelphia on October 1
Artslead is getting stronger: I’m happy to announce that we have a new collaborator: Joseph Gordon Cleveland of The Shelter Agency. He is talented and has a diverse expertise as an Art Director, Producer, and Designer. Joseph will be part of our team and assist with digital production, photography, and more. We are happy to work with him on all things visual!
Last but not least, we are looking forward to attending APAP 2017. Brianna Thomas will take part in this conference and I will be at APAP HQ from January 6- January 8th. My collaboration with Pat Harris and her Showcases deserves a post of their own. Until then, enjoy your day and support your artists, go see live music!
